Did you know that some fruits have slimming properties: stimulating the body to burn fat, helping to cleanse the body of toxins and help with digestion? This includes figs, grapefruit, pineapple and papaya.

Most fruits have a lot of calories and a high glycaemic index (they are a source of simple sugars), so unlike vegetables you cannot eat them without restriction. The latest pyramid of healthy nutrition and physical activity recommends that vegetables and fruits represent at least half of our daily food, of which ¾ we fill with vegetables and only ¼ fruit.

The most caloric fruits include: bananas, grapes, dates, pomegranates, pears, kiwi, dried plums and figs. Watermelons, melons, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries – those fruits have the least calories. There are also fruits that, thanks to their unique properties – regardless of their calorie – support slimming and are indicated in diets. These include: figs, grapefruit, papaya and pineapple.

  1. Prickly pear – suppresses the feeling of hunger

Prickly pear is the fruit of a cactus that supresses hunger, reduces fat absorption and has a detoxifying effect. In Mexico, where prickly pear is cultivated, it is used in wound dressing, treating gastrointestinal issues and lowering blood glucose levels in people with diabetes. Fruits can be eaten raw, processed; it can be prepared with juice, and also as part of tea. They are also a part of slimming supplements.

  1. Grapefruit – stimulates the burning of fats

Grapefruit, in addition to being a refreshing fruit rich in vitamins and minerals, also has slimming properties. It stimulates fat burning, improves metabolism, and thanks to pectin content improves intestinal function, regulates carbohydrate and fat and helps remove toxins. The advantage of grapefruit is that it has a low glycaemic index – after eating it, sugar is gradually released, which prevents starvation.

Papaya’s weight loss action is due to papain. An enzyme that improves digestion, accelerates the burning of proteins and adipose tissue. It also helps cleanse the body of toxins. Papaya, thanks to its beneficial effect on the digestive system, will also help with bloating, constipation or hyperacidity.

The bromelain enzyme in the pineapple decomposes the protein and thus improves digestion. In addition, it’s great for cellulite problems as bromelain treats the inflammation process and helps remove cellulite. Pineapple also has a lot of fibre that regulates intestinal work. Beneficial (and less caloric) are fresh fruits, not canned ones.
